Sent Into the World: The Missional Life

Preacher: Tom Yeakley

Matthew 28:16-20

16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

  • Given to all who would be followers of Jesus
  • Making disciples of all the peoples of the world

3 Components of a Missional Lifestyle:

  1. Adopt a Worker’s Attitude
  • Matthew 9:37-38  Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore,  to  send out workers into his harvest field.
  • Laboring in the harvest, not vacationing in the harvest!
  1. Surrender to God’s Plan
  • Luke 9:23  Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.
  • Daily surrender – dying to self and following Jesus
  1. Aim for Spiritual Generations
  • 2 Timothy 2:2  And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.
  • Aim for the ripple, not the splash!
