Established In Our Faith: The Changed Life

Preacher: Tom Yeakley

Colossians 2:6-10

6 So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, 7 rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. 8 See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ. 9 For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, 10 and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority.

3 Tools God Uses for Our Spiritual Growth:

  1. The Holy Spirit

·         Ephesians 2:8-10  –  For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith–and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God–not by works, so that no one can boast.  For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

·         Not saved by doing good but saved for doing good in Jesus’ name.

·         Galatians 2:20  –  I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

·         How the Holy Spirit Gives Us Guidance:

1.       The Word of God – Psalm 119:105

2.       Personal Peace – Isaiah 30:21

3.       Wise Counsel – Proverbs 15:22

4.       Critical Thinking – 1 Peter 1:13

5.       Circumstances – Acts 16:6-10

  1. The Word of God – The Bible

·         2 Timothy 3:16-17 –  All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

·         Saturate your life with the Word of God that you might become equipped to do good work in Jesus’ name.

  1. The Example of Others

·         Philippians 3:17 –  Join together in following my example, brothers and sisters, and just as you have us as a model,     keep your eyes on those who live as we do.

·         Place yourself in an environment where you can watch others work out their faith – small group or get individual help – find a mentor or someone to disciple you
